What is Diverticulosis
Diverticulosis known also as “diverticular disease” is a condition characterized of having numerous small pouches or pockets (diverticula) randomly in the colon lining or wall, which are out-pocketing of the colonic mucosa and submucosa through weaknesses of the muscle layers in the colon wall. These diverticula occur when the inner layer of the colon pushes through the weak spots in the outer layer of wall. Most people with divertoculosis become aware on the said condition only when acute diverticulitis occurs. Diverticulosis is mainly a condition of older people age 40 years old and above.
