Diverticulosis Treatment

Diverticulosis treatment depends on the severity of the person diverticulosis signs and symptoms.

Treatment for Mild Diverticulosis Symptoms

Liquid or Low-Fiber Diet
      -          Liquid and low-fiber diet for a few days, once the symptoms show some improvement and your feeling better, you can add high-fiber foods on your diet.

Antibiotics
      -          Antibiotics help kill bacteria causing the infection.

Pain Reliever
      -          Regular pain reliever medicine will be prescribed to a patient that feels moderate to severe pain.


Treatment for Severe Diverticulosis Symptoms

Usually on the first severe attack of diverticulosis symptoms and puts the person at risk of bowel obstruction or peritonitis, the person will be advice to be hospitalized to receive intravenous antibiotics.

Surgery is recommended to patient that has a perforation, abscess, fistula or recurring diverticulosis to remove the diseased portion of the patients colon.

Perforation:  a hole or series of holes in your colon”
Abscess:  a cavity containing pus and surrounded by inflamed tissue, formed as a result of a localized infection.
