Diverticulosis Diet

Diverticulosis diet are given to a patient that are experiencing diverticulosis symptoms. This diverticulosis diet can’t heal diverticulosis, this diet help your colon to relax and will prevent to worsen your diverticulosis.

Clear liquid diets for a few days will be the start for a diverticulosis diet. Taking only clear liquids such as broth and plain gelatine for two to three days to allow the digestive tract to rest and relax.

After two to three days once you feel better and the symptoms begin to resolve, you can slowly add low-fiber foods on your diet.

Low-fiver foods:
  • White meat
  • Poultry Products
  • Rice, White bread, Pasta and Noodles
  • Dairy Products

After a few days when you don’t feel the symptoms and your feeling much better with low-fiber diet then you should gradually add high-fiber foods into your diet. High-fiber foods don’t heal or cure diverticulosis , high-fiber diet help prevent formation of additional diverticulosis and also help decrease diverticular diseases.  

High Fiver Foods:
  • Whole Grains
  • Legumes
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables

Fiber help soften and add bulk to stools, makes them pass easily through the colon and it also reduces the pressure in the digestive tract. Patients with diverticulosis should at least consume 25-38 grams of fiber daily. Having a high-fiber diet it’s recommended to consume adequate amount of water and other fluids. Taking a fiber supplement once a day would be great.
