Diverticular disease is common for people that have a low-fiber diet. The muscular wall of the colon grows thicker as we grow older, the cause of thickening is still unclear. Study says the increasing pressure required by the colon to eliminate feces is one of the causes of having diverticular disease. Low fiber diet can lead to hard feces which are difficult to pass and it needs more pressure, over the time with the high pressure in the colon push the inner intestinal lining outward.
